About the Organization:
The Ya’thi Néné Lands and Resource Office will work to promote and enhance the environmental, social, cultural and economic health and well-being of the Athabasca Basin Communities (being Black Lake First Nation, Fond du Lac First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, Stony Rapids, Wollaston Lake, Uranium City and Camsell Portage) and their residents.
Position Summary:
The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. YNLR is looking for an outstanding leader with the vision and experience to oversee the daily operations of the YNLR office. The position operates under the supportive direction of the Board of Directors. The position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as skills in administration, human resources and personnel management, financial management, report writing, funding applications, grant writing and liaising with community leaders, industry representatives and government organizations.
Principal Duties:
• Ensures the effective and efficient execution of YNLR mission, vision and core values.
• Develop goals, objectives, and operational plans for the organization that ensures ongoing excellence in programs, staffing, finance, administration and communications.
• Fully inform the Board on the condition of the organization and all-important factors influencing it through regular reports and communications.
• Demonstrates the capacity to analyze, synthesize and integrate information to effectively identify and solve problems. Makes informed decisions; and successfully addresses complex organizational challenges.
• Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, elected officials, industry representatives, government officials and Board of Director members.
• Support the Board in strategic planning.
• Develop and implement annual business plans that will achieve the goals set out in the strategic plan.
• Oversee annual budget planning cycle, supporting the Board in finalization and adoption of the annual budget. Provide monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors.
• Human resource management, planning and team-building. Supervise staff (employees and contractors).
• Program and project management (Oversee timelines, budgets and resources for projects across a broad range of areas sometimes with tight timelines, approve expenses, payroll, contract fees, travel and other operational expenditures).
• Represent the communities in IBA negotiations
• Provide information to Members and third parties regarding land and industrial activities on the land.
• Manage the implementation of the Collaboration Agreement
• Attend Board meetings.
Qualifications:
• Post-secondary degree(s)/certificates in the areas of business or another related field;
• Minimum of five years of relevant work experience leading or developing teams, programs and staff
• Knowledge of the industries and companies operating in the Athabasca area
• Strong community relations and cultural skills
• Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Possess environmental and traditional knowledge.
• Experience working in northern communities and knowledge of the Dene language is an asset
• Skills in program management, resource allocation, human resource management
• Experience working within a non-profit is an asset.

This position will have a three-month probationary period.
